Ain Dubai Ferris Wheel, which will be the world's largest Ferris wheel, is currently being built on Bluewaters Island, a man-made island just off Jumeirah Beach Residences. The project is behind schedule, but the aim is for the attraction to open in 2020.
Ain Dubai is set to become another world-class attraction in Dubai - and it's going to take a world record to get it featured in newspapers, social media posts and attract new visitors to Dubai.
The Ferris wheel - formerly known as the Dubai Eye - will be 210 metres high. By comparison, the world's tallest Ferris wheel is the High Roller in Las Vegas at 168 metres and the next tallest is the Singapore Flyer at 165 metres.
Ferris wheel overlooking Dubai
In New York, the New York Wheel is under construction, which, when plans were drawn up, was thought to be capable of breaking the world record. But the New York Wheel's 192 metres will only be good enough for second place behind Ain Dubai.
The Ferris wheel will have 48 air-conditioned pods, which together can accommodate 1,400 passengers per ride - and from a height of 210 metres promises breathtaking views of the JBR, Dubai Marina, The Palm Jumeirah, Burj Khalifa and the rest of the emirate.
Ain Dubai to open in 2020
The structure consists of more than 9,000 tonnes of steel and is part of the Bluewaters Island project's budget of AED 6 billion, just over SEK 12 billion.
In addition to Ain Dubai, a hotel, shopping mall and residential units are being built on the small island, which is connected to the mainland by a short car and pedestrian bridge.
The construction of the Ferris wheel is in full swing and the overall design is complete. The inauguration was planned for the latter part of 2018, but this did not happen.
Now the aim is to have the wheel spinning in time for the World Expo in Dubai - which opens in October 2020.
