Great golf courses and a stable climate make Dubai the perfect destination for a golfing holiday. Playing is expensive, but packaged golf holidays are available, often at affordable prices given the quality of both courses and hotels.

Dubai, and the rest of the UAE, is of course largely made up of sand. It may sound backwards, but it's actually a perfect start for anyone looking to build a golf course. Choose a suitable grass, add plenty of water and hire the world's top golf architects - and you'll have world-class courses. And that's exactly what Dubai has been doing since 1988 when the first golf club opened.

Golf in Dubai today

Today there are ten golf courses in Dubai and around 20 in total if you include the neighbouring emirates. All are within driving distance of Dubai. Sometimes just a short drive away, sometimes a little longer. In Dubai there are golf courses designed by world famous players such as Nick Faldo, Ernie Els and Colin Montgomerie.

Most famous, and most prestigious, is the Majlis Course at Emirates Golf Club. The course has been used every year since 1989 to host the Dubai Desert Classic, part of the European Tour. It was won in 2007 by Henrik Stenson of Sweden.

Another well-known, but much newer, golf resort is Jumeirah Golf Estates with the Earth and Water courses. Opened in 2009, Henrik Stenson has also triumphed there, winning the European Tour Finals DP World Tour Championship in 2013 and 2014, which takes place on the Earth course in November each year.

How much it costs to play varies greatly depending on the season, and to some extent on the course. During the peak season, which is in winter when temperatures are at their most comfortable, you can expect a green fee in the range of SEK 1200 to SEK 2500.

During the summer off-season, when the heat can make a round of golf a real challenge, the green fee is often reduced by 50 percent or more.

Prices and booking are available on the respective club websites, follow the links above.
