Dubai's wealthy fare dodgers are finding it harder to escape the police. A Ferrari and a Lamborghini have been deployed to chase down sports cars that break the speed limit.
Thinking of renting a car in Dubai? Keep your eyes peeled on the streets and roads, because there's plenty to see for those who like luxury cars.
Dubai has more fast - and expensive - sports cars in a small area than any other place on the planet. And the emirate's straight and wide motorways are perfect for testing the limits of the car. In the past, the traffic police had no chance, but now they have two fast cars to make life miserable for the wrongdoers.
It started last spring with a Lamborghini Aventador worth more than three million crowns, a car with 700 horsepower and a top speed of 350 kilometres per hour. Then came a Ferrari FF California with a top speed of 335 kilometres per hour and a price tag in the same region as the Lamborghinis.
The fastest cars in Dubai are driven by female traffic cops.
Other cars in the police garage include the Bentley Continental GT, Mercedes SLS, Chevrolet Camaro and Aston Martin One-77. The idea is for the police not only to catch bad guys, but also to reflect the image of luxurious Dubai.
