Top 10! Tips for attractions and experiences in Dubai

Want tips on what to do in Dubai? Go ahead, here we list our top ten tips for the 2018-2019 season. You can always find more inspiration and things to do via the menu above.

Tips on things to do in Dubai

1. Burj Khalifa

The world's tallest skyscraper stretches 828 metres above the city and is Dubai's most famous building. A visit to the Observation Deck is a given and a must, at least once in a lifetime.

2. Dubai Frame (new)

Dubai Frame - novelty 2018In early 2018, Dubai Frame - the city's latest top attraction - opened. A 150-metre-high picture frame clad in glittering gold (well, gold-coloured steel - but still) with an observation deck on top.

The view is magnificent, the glass floor is both awesome and slightly dizzying, and the tickets are actually not very expensive.

Don't miss this attraction next time you travel to Dubai.

3. Burj al Arab

Burj al Arab - tips in DubaiWe wrote above that the Burj Khalifa is Dubai's most famous building, but the question is whether that's really true. The sail-shaped, iconic, luxury hotel Burj al Arab is still perhaps slightly better known? Nowadays the hotel is closed to temporary visitors, you have to stay at the hotel to be admitted. But there is a nice loophole. Book Afternoon Tea and you'll get the chance to experience one of the world's most opulent hotels from the inside. The sandwiches and pastries don't go amiss either. You can book Afternoon Tea directly with the hotel. Another tip is the fantastic guided tour of Dubai, which includes Afternoon Tea and a visit to the Burj al Arab. Costs a penny, but it's the money.

4. Desert safari

Desert Safari - in DubaiGoing on a desert excursion is one of the most popular tourist activities in Dubai. Desert Safari, Desert Safari, Dune Bashing, Dune Driving - dear child has many names - is indeed a cool attraction.

You'll ride four-wheel drive jeeps rallying over the dunes and the day ends with BBQ and entertainment. We issue a small tourist trap warning: the food isn't great, the entertainment is so-so. But the desert itself is a different experience that makes the excursion worth every single dirham.

5. Dinner cruise

Dinner CruiseGliding along Dubai's waterways in a dhow, a traditional wooden vessel, is a pleasant way to experience the city. The dinner cruise offers local flavours and beautiful views.

Nowadays you can book Dinner Cruise both on Dubai Creek - a classic version that has been around for many years - and also under the skyscrapers of the newly built Dubai Marina. Completely different, but very interesting experiences.

7. Walk along The Walk in JBR

JBR The WalkJumeirah Beach Residence is one of Dubai's most popular areas, thanks to its fine beach and good selection of shops and - not least - restaurants.

There are many hotels here, so you may want to stay in JBR on your trip to Dubai. But if you don't, one tip is to go there. It's well worth the taxi or metro ride, no matter where you stay.

Stroll along The Walk, eat and drink, shop, swim, people-watch, and just enjoy life.

8. Playing in a water park

Water Park Who doesn't like to go on a waterslide? That's right. Dubai is home to two of the coolest theme parks on the planet for those who like to get their feet wet: Wild Wadi and Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark. Wild Wadi has been around for the longest, but is still a full-on water experience, while the Aquaventure Waterpark at the Atlantis hotel is newer and even grander. A new addition is Legoland Waterpark, which is geared towards children aged 2-12.

In total, there are more than 100 different rides covering an area larger than 420 football pitches.

10. Day trip to Abu Dhabi

Sheikh Zayed MosqueSure, there's plenty to experience in Dubai. But we must also recommend a trip to the neighbouring emirate of Abu Dhabi. The UAE capital is home to some of the region's most magnificent experiences.

One example is the motor-inspired Ferrari World theme park, voted the region's top theme park. Another must-see is the incredibly beautiful Sheikh Zayed Mosque. Both can be experienced on guided day trips from Dubai.
